I've sort of settled on a hair-style that works. It's a bob. I do like layers but haven't quite got the stylists to understand I want more layers and not all one length on the sides. Still, for $13.00, I'm not going to complain. I cannot see spending $40 for a hair cut.
I don't wash my hair every day anymore, unless I get really dirty or have to go somewhere. More and more studies are saying the washing of hair daily is not good for your scalp. There is the small idea, too, that you use less water because you aren't washing your hair daily. I have a friend who hasn't, she says, washed her hair in 2 years. She gets it colored every 4 months, but she doesn't wash it. I don't like how it looks when I go through a weekend without a wash.
What I do like is this.
The gray hair shampoo I use has left a lavender tint to my hair. The shampoo is a bright, deep purple and that's designed to counter the yellow which results from regular shampoo. A year ago, the stylist said my hair was purple and I didn't believe her. The intervening year has proven to me that, yes, it is purple, light purple, lavender. I was mortified at first. Now, I like it.
In December, I did an inspection and a gal had the most amazing hair. It was gray on 3/4ths of it with black roots. She looked beautiful. I was shocked when she told me it was a wig.
I thought about this. I don't want to spend a lot of time dealing with my hair. I want to wash, comb and go. But I've also reached an age where I want something different. In the social circles of which I run, colored hair is not looked down upon. I think I would like my hair white, at least for a time, maybe changing the color on occasion.
I was looking for haircuts and stumbled on this.
Meryl Streep from the movie, The Devil Wears Prada". Silver over black. How hard would it be to do? The more important question is just how much a look like this would cost. This would be something which I could have done once and then just let it grow out. A friend suggested I look into the wands which apply color. You can streak your hair with as much or as little as you'd like.
I think I'm just looking for a change. Maybe I should go shorter. The idea of adding color is very appealing, but I love my gray, too. For now, I'm sticking with the lavender. It's easy to apply.
