How Can You Wait?

I finished the peanut M&Ms that Meredith sent and noticed the following on the back of the bag.

I realize the FDA has decreed that foodstuffs need to have an expiration date. I remember when they didn't. Heck, I remember when there were signs in store windows for "colored oleo". No, that's not what you think.

When it first came out, margarine was called "oleo margarine" and was the same color as Crisco. Consumers did not take to this new product because it looked just like the bacon fat they saved in soup cans on the stove. So, manufacturers would add yellow food coloring to margarine so it looked like the butter it was designed to replace. I can still see the big signs in grocery store windows. "We have colored oleo." But I digress.

I got a chuckle out of this on my bag. Who would buy a bag of peanut M&M's and save them beyond the "best before" date? Who has that kind of will power? It certainly isn't me.

Beverage:  Yorkshire Gold tea
