I Have Amazing Friends

When I got home from work last night, there was a package in the mailbox. I didn't remember ordering anything and I'd received the Cat Daddy book so I couldn't quite figure out what it was. It was book size, too. A look at the return address showed it was from a long-time friend in Wisconsin. I couldn't imagine what book he was sending me. Viola. Here it is.

I am familiar with this story. One bitterly cold winter, the librarian of the Spencer, Iowa library found a kitten stuffed into the book return slot. The library adopted him and he became something of a celebrity. This book chronicles the cat's life, all 19 years of it.

I knew of the book but I've never read it. It's one of those on the "To Be Read" list but who knows when I'd get to actually buying the book to read. My friend knows of my love of books and cats and he found this half off the half-off price at Half Price Books near him. He felt I should have it. "Now, if you've read this, pass it along," was his admonition. Well, I haven't read it so it goes on the stack and, when I've finished, I will offer it to someone else.

I'm really touched by this gesture. It might have cost more to ship the book to me than it did for him to purchase it but that is, of course, not the point. "Here, I want you to have something I think you'll like." My friends are an amazing group.
