Yes, it is a Beautiful City

My company is having the June director's meeting in Chicago this year. I was invited to go to dinner with them last night. Most of the attendees have never been to Chicago. I tend to forget, because it's right "over there", that if your office is in the southeast US, Chicago is another world away.

The meeting is being held at a small hotel a few blocks from Michigan Avenue. Last night, we walked from the hotel to the restaurant for dinner. There was a rumor of rain but it stayed away, thankfully, because it allowed people to experience some of the city's ambiance.

On the way back to the hotel, I pointed out some of the jobs I'd worked on which were within visual range of the walk. When I pointed to various buildings and say, "I was on that project and that one and that one over there", the group got a feel for a lot of what we do here and our attachment to this city. It was a cool night but with no breeze it was a delightful walk.

Several people commented that this is a beautiful city. It is. The photo was taken from the top of the parking garage where I parked. That's the Wrigley Building, built in the 1920's. It's surrounded by more recent construction but it all works. I'm very wedded to living in the suburbs, but, as I told several people, just knowing that the city and all its amenities is a 45 minute drive away keeps me here. I may leave some day but right now, this is home.

Beverage:  Scottish Blend tea
