Donut Day
Of course, I would head to Dunkin' for my free donut today. That it is also D-Day is not a coincidence.
According to wikipedia, handing out donuts to servicemen predates World War II and was a chance to cheer soldiers still recuperating from wounds suffered in World War I. It started with the Salvation Army, but has been assimilated into commercial enterprises. My local Dunkin' was handing out samples of blueberry donuts. I know that flavor. It's one of the ones I get along with my double chocolate donut.
I hope every serviceman or woman gets 3 free donuts somewhere on this planet today. I also hope they never have to experience the kind of battle D-Day represents.
