The Last Vial

Back in April of 2012, I decided to start using all these samples of fragrances that I'd accumulated over the years. It started with the packets with the little square soaked in scent. Then, I pulled out all the vials, some attached to cards and some loose. Since the last week of April, every day I'm in the office and on weekend days when I have to be some place, I try to remember to splash on a bit of scent. I'll never be rid of these if I don't use them.

I am pleased to report, I am down to the last vial. I just finished one of three vials of Clinique's Happy fragrance and will start Calvin Klein's Euphoria Blossom tomorrow. It takes roughly 2 1/2 weeks to use up a vial since I don't use it on weekends if I don't go anywhere.

Along the way, I have discovered some scents I would consider having on the dresser if I didn't already have dozens of fragrances already. Some were, "Wow. Spicy." Some were, "Thank goodness I'm wearing this in the winter when there aren't bugs" floral. Some made me sneeze, which, given my allergies, is not a good thing. I never poured any out. If it made me sneeze, I used less of it. As I work in an office of men, I don't think they noticed if I smelled like cologne or fabric softener.

It's been fun to wear a scent for a bit and then switch to a new one. If I didn't have dozens of bottles, this could be a way to wear fragrance. Go to a fragrance counter and say you're in the market for a new fragrance and ask for vials to test.

So where do I go from here? I think the next thing will be to go through the basket and pull out all the small bottles I have, particularly the ones with only a partial amount left in them. It will probably mean that I'll be using Avon's Apple Blossom for months until I get it used up, but I think that's the best course of action.

I feel as if I have accomplished something. Since the vials were glass with a plastic stopper attached to cardboard, the whole thing was recycled when empty. It's been a scent-sational year. (I couldn't resist.)
