Silly Purchase of the Year

We all do it. You may not want to admit it, but you do. I know you do. One can never be completely practical all the time. Something strikes your fancy and you just have to have it. There's something about possession of an item, even if it's silly, that is part of being human.

To the right is my silly purchase for the year. It's eye shadow. It's silver. It's sparkly. Now, I wear make-up, maybe, 5 times a year, maybe. Moisturizer, yes, daily. Sunscreen, yes, when I'm going to be outside. Make-up with the foundation, mascara, blush, lipstick and eye shadow, maybe gets put on my face 5 times a year. I don't go anywhere and the guys at the office don't care. Why spend 15 minutes in the morning with the face paint if I'm going to spend the day driving around servicing equipment? I feel good enough about myself that I don't need added color or the added time to do this in the morning. I am who I am.

A friend of mine sells Avon products. I like to help out my friends when I can. Avon has some nice things. I take a look at her web site (yes it's a plug but Laurie's my friend) a couple times a month to see if there is something that meets the need I have at the time. Poking around before Valentine's Day I found the eye shadow. Silver big deal. What's so special about this? The name.

This is Glitterati. This character is an alternate character that I play in World of Warcraft. She is a spell caster. I made this toon because my World of Warcraft guild was attempting to get a guild-wide achievement entitled "Stay Classy". I have a main toon that I play, Gimmlette, a hunter. I find it hard to play a different toon, but we needed someone to take a dwarf mage from level 0 to level 85 so we could get this achievement. With help from a fellow guild member, I did it and we got the achievement. The silvery, sparkly eye shadow is called, if you haven't figured it out by now, Glitterati. It's spelled the exact same way. I also find the coincidence that the eye shadow is silvery very interesting because the kinds of spells the mage shoots off are sparkly, white and glittery, hence the picking of the name.

So that's my silly purchase of the year. The eye shadow is part of a whole product line Avon has and, technically, I should purchase a compact that holds blush and dry foundation and eye shadow. Laurie was kind enough to get me just the shadow. Will I use it? Possibly. I don't rule anything like that out. You never know. I did get a couple of flavored lip glosses, too, vanilla and chocolate.

I think this probably puts me in the real nerd territory when I'm buying based on a fictitious character in a made up world. But don't look at me like that. I know you've done something just a crazy.
